- Number of Volunteers: The total number of individuals aged 16 and over that volunteered through or for an organization, as shown in annual numbers from 1974, 1989, and 2002 to 2007.
- Total Volunteer Hours: The total number of hours that individuals aged 16 and over dedicated to volunteer service through or for an organization, as shown in annual numbers from 2002 to 2007.
- Volunteer Rate: The percentage of individuals aged 16 and over that served through or for an organization, shown in annual numbers from 1974, 1989, and 2002 to 2007.
- Main Activities for Volunteers: The top four activities for volunteers and the percentage that volunteers engage in each activity. This graph integrates three years of combined data from 2005, 2006, and 2007.
- Where People Volunteer (2005-2007): The percentage of volunteers serving with each organization type. This graph integrates three years of combined data from 2005, 2006, and 2007.
- Trends and Highlights: A snapshot of information, including the average number of volunteers and total hours of service, using three years of combined data. Information on the 2007 number of volunteers and total volunteer hours is also included.
- Where People Volunteer (1989): The percentage of volunteers serving with each organization type. This graph integrates one year of data from 1989.
- Volunteer Hours per Resident: Shows the annual total volunteer hours served divided by the population, on an annual basis from 2002 through 2007.
- Intensive Volunteers (100+ Hours per year): The average percentage of volunteers that served 100 or more hours for an organization within a year’s time. Data within this chart was developed using three years of data from 2005, 2006, and 2007.
- Civic Engagement: Shows civic engagement indicators such as the percentage of individuals who attended public meetings, worked with their neighbors to address a community issue, and voted in the 2000 and 2004 Presidential elections.
- Nonprofit Organizations Per 1,000 Residents: The prevalence of small and large nonprofit organizations across the nation. Large nonprofits are organizations with annual revenues equal to or above $25,000. Small are nonprofits were defined as nonprofit organizations with annual revenues below $25,000. Examples of small nonprofits would be neighborhood civic associations or local community sports clubs.
- Volunteering by Geographic Area: Volunteer rates for individuals 16 and older living in urban, suburban, or rural areas, using three years' worth of combined data (2005, 2006, and 2007).
- Volunteer Hours by Geographic Area: Median volunteer hours for individuals 16 and older living in urban, suburban, or rural areas, using three years' worth of combined data (2005, 2006, and 2007).
- Volunteering by Age Group & Gender: Volunteer rates and median volunteer hours for adults in the following seven age groups: 16-24, 25-34, 35-44, 45-54, 55-64, 65-74, and 75+ - using three years' worth of combined data (2005, 2006, and 2007). This chart also includes the volunteer rates and median volunteer hours for men, women, college students, and Baby Boomers.
