Volunteer Hours per Resident: Between 2005 and 2008, the average national volunteer hours per resident was 35.1 hours. During the same timeframe, average volunteer hours per resident ranged from 14 to 134.2 hours for mid-size cities. Rankings are based on a four-year moving average. Canton, OH; Lafayette, LA; and Lakeland, FL were not included in the Volunteer Hours per Resident rankings due to sample size issues.
